Center for State and Local Government Excellence

A Collaborative Effort to Strengthen State and Local Government

The Center for State and Local Government Excellence was created in 2007 with financial support from ICMA-RC to respond to the challenges facing state and local governments as they sought to attract and nurture the best workforce for the 21st century.

Since inception, the Center has initiated numerous major research projects, conducted opinion polling, and launched a campaign to bring attention to workforce challenges in the public sector. The Center’s research has been cited in Congressional testimony, in professional conferences, and in the national media.

With the Center's findings on financial realities and solutions that work, we believe state and local government leaders will be better equipped to answer the difficult questions they face on retirement planning, retiree health care, and many other important issues affecting public employees.

ICMA-RC and the Center for Excellence look forward to working together in the years ahead to find more solutions to these issues, and we hope that the partnership between us will serve as a useful resource for you.
